Veterans Day, November 11

In 1918, the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of eleventh month, the world rejoiced and celebrated. After four years of bitter war, an armistice was signed. The war to end all wars "was over.
In 1921, an World War I American soldier at Arlington National Cemetery was buried.
Buried Similar ceremonies occurred earlier in England and France, where an unknown soldier was on top of all nations to honor (in England, Westminster Abbey, in France, the Arc de Triomphe).
The memorial gestures all took place on November 11 with a general recognition of the famous battle against the First World War ended at 11 hours.
Memorial Day officially received its name in America in 1926 by a resolution of Congress. It 'was a national holiday 12 years later by similar Congressional action. If the idealistic hope it was clear that the first world war, "the war to end all wars," November 11 will be clarified or, perhaps, the day of the cease-fire. But it was declared a few years after the vacation, the war in Europe.

A law passed in 1968 changed the national commemoration of Veterans Day to the fourth Monday in October. It soon became evident that the E 11 November a day of historical significance for many Americans it was. Thus, in 1978 Congress returned the observance to its traditional date.
